MCC Notices

Hello all. I’m writing to provide a reminder of several upcoming events (starting next week) so mark your calendars.

  1. Bicycle maintenance workshops. I’ve arranged to have our own Matt Kmiec provide two maintenance clinics where he’ll provide a hands on learning experience on how to adjust derailleur’s, brakes, and change flat tires. The location is Room 14 at the Keene Rec Center on Saturday Feb 13th and Saturday March 20th. Times are from 1:00 – 3:00 pm for both days. You are encouraged to bring your bike, tools, and repair stand. We will provide the know-how, charm, and good looks. We will not be repairing bikes.
  2. Movie Night – this was a popular event last year so we’ll be showing another cycling film at the Keene Public Library on Thursday March 4th from 6:30 – 9:00 pm. The film is ‘Overcoming’. This is a behind the scenes documentary which follows the CSC professional cycling team in 2004 as they attempt to end Lance Armstrong's stranglehold on the Tour de France. This event is open to both MCC members and non-members and is free to all (even mountain bikers). Very cool footage of the time trial duel between Armstrong and Ivan Basso up Alpe D’uez. The gauntlet of fans lining the road prompted Tour organizers to admit they were seriously frightened and would probably never again do another time trial up Alpe D’uez.
  3. Membership signup and clothing order – we’ll be holding our annual membership signup and clothing order soon – probably March 11th. We’ll confirm that date and location soon. As an added incentive we’ll be handing out a special gift to everyone who attends this event and becomes a member. Trust me (in a spider to the fly kind of way) when I say the gift is very nice and practical.

MCC Events

  • I’m writing to thank everyone who participated, helped organize, and volunteered their time to help staff the Covered Bridges Century. There are so many people to thank for making this a successful event that I couldn’t list you all. We ended up with 67 riders and as a result raised nearly $3,000.00 - all of which goes to the Lions Club efforts to support sight programs and services including vision screenings, eye banks and eyeglass recycling, and to provide eye care services to those at risk of losing their sight. Thanks again everyone. I hope you had a good ride. David Barry, President Monadnock Cycling Club
